1846 Rushville established…

1848 Rushville becomes known as 'Coonsville' in honor of the area's first physician Dr. Liberius T. Coon...

1851 First district court held…

On August 1st the General Assembly appoints W.W. Noyes as the first Mills County Sheriff.

On August 31st the first General Election was held and county officers were then elected;

William Smith - County Judge, W.W. Noyes - Clerk of the District Court,

& James Hardy - Sheriff.

1853 Name of the county seat changed to Glenwood. First jail built using logs and heavy planks. It was made doubly secure by heavy spikes driven in at regular short distances.

1857 Courthouse was built in Glenwood...

1869 New jail built on southside of the square…

1874 The Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department is organized and housed in the Old National Guard Armory...

1907 The grand opening celebration is held for the new Carnegie Library in Glenwood...

1919 Glenwood buys it's first 'new' fire truck a 1919 Stutz Fire Engine...

(Still owned by the city, still fully operational, and on display next to the Police Department!)

1929 Beulah Botts graduates from Glenwood High School. She later becomes known around the world as "Aunt Jemima" of Quaker Oats pancake fame...

1953 In a controversial election, Glenwood residents say " yes" to building a swimming pool...

1957 New (and current) Courthouse is built in Glenwood...

1960 The Glenwood Fire Department is named the best in the United States for towns under 5,000 people...

1967 Fire Department is relocated just south of the Old Armory…

1970 The Glenwood Police Department moves offices from the Old Armory to the Glenwood City Hall....

1974 the new clocktower, funded by Charles W. Davies, is dedicated at the county courthouse in Glenwood...

1976 Current Fire Station is built on the site of the Old Armory...

1979 The Glenwood Police Department moves offices from City Hall and joins the Mills County Sheriffs Office

1995 The Glenwood Police Department moves to it's current location at 209 Sharp Street...

2000 The Glenwood Police Department starts a web-site…
