Child Registry Program

The Child Registry Program was developed as a positive deterrent to the continuing epidemic of child abduction. Missing children are one of the greatest fears of our time. Child Registry is a program designed to furnish law enforcement officials with the necessary information and materials to provide an effective deterrent to child abduction.

The Glenwood Police Department and Glenwood Community Schools are concerned about the safety of our children. Jointly we are offering parents an opportunity to register their children. The Child Registry Handbook provides identification documentation with records and charts that can be frequently updated. This handbook provides precise information and identification which is imperative when beginning a missing child investigation.

PLEASE HELP US PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!

Halloween Safety Program

The Halloween Safety Program was started in 1989 with approximately 544 Students. Today, 11 years later there are approximately 1000 students. This has become a tradition not only for the students but for the officer as well. The excitement the children have knowing that during the week of Halloween an officer will be arriving with their treat bags and safety tips.

The intent of this program is to give the children a better understanding of safety procedures on Halloween night. The officer will give a 10-15 minute presentation. Some of the areas that the officer hightlights on are to carry a flashlight, use reflective tape on your costume so that people driving can see your costumes, plan your trick or treat route, and always go along with other children or an adult. When the officer is finished with the presentation he or she will hand out the Halloween bags filled with treats.

This program has been very successful over the years with the donations from local merchants. It takes many hours of preparation by the Glenwood Police staff to plan, organize, and stuff bags with goodies as well as visit with the area classes. Last year Officers went to 9 different locations to do the presentation. This is done for the children, to see their faces light up when the Officers walk into the room is a great pleasure and makes all the hard work and time seem worthwhile.
