911 Information    
When you call 911 in Mills County, the call will directly go to the Mills County Communications Center located in the basement of the Mills County Courthouse in Glenwood. The Communications Center handles all 911 calls, police, fire, and ambulance in Mills County. The communications center is staffed with seven employees. Which consist of Communication Director, Lead dispatcher, and six full time dispatchers.

When to call 911:

  • Crimes in progress. (Disturbances, suspicious persons or activities,
  • crimes involving serious injury)
  • Accidents, Accidents with injury
  • Life and death situations - (no pulse, no breathing, uncontrollable bleeding)
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Someone is injured
  • To prevent a crime
  • To report a fire

Dispatchers are trained to get as much information as possible. Here are examples of the three most common 911 calls.

Automobile Accident

  • Give the block number or nearest location
  • If there are injuries
  • Fuel spill, a possible fire danger

 

Suspicious Vehicle

  • Get the vehicle description, color make, model, year and anything unusual.
  • Are there people in the vehicle? If so, how many? Age? Race? Sex?
  • Is the vehicle parked or moving?

Suspicious Person

  • Give the sex, race and age
  • Describe the suspicious activity

 

If you call 911 by mistake, stay on the line. Let the dispatcher know you do not need police assistance.
